Chrysalis Teen Weight Loss
Adolescents Aren't Miniature Adults. Duh! We Get That.
While the physiological dynamics behind weight-loss remain the same, the psychology doesn’t:
- It can be harder for teens to stay on the diet.
- Teens are frequently dealing with even more body issues than overweight adults.
- And they not only have to deal with their own emotions, but also with the added dynamics of their parents.
It’s actually not all that complicated, but it can sure seem that way. Especially when your part of that teen-parent dynamic!
The point is, most adult programs aren’t capable of understanding and addressing these issues, which is why they typically fail for teens. And when programs fail, it’s usually the clients who shoulder the blame themselves. Unfortunately, this can be especially damaging for teens.
OTC Medical Group’s Chrysalis Program empowers teens – and their parents
Most weight loss programs focus on the mechanics of losing weight. Fewer calories plus greater activity equals weight loss. And that’s true. But it’s not that simple. And seeing weight loss through that lens leaves you with nothing to turn to once the scale stops showing improvement.
That’s when most programs revert to guilt. And when most parents are left not knowing what to do or how to feel.
Paradoxically, we get better results by NOT focusing on weight loss.
We have the fastest and safest weight loss system to be found. Our teens typically average between 2-3 pounds lost per week. Some lose more. But our beveraged-based weight loss diet isn’t the focus of our program.
The focus is on establishing routines – both with the client and their parents - that eliminate identified emotional triggers and habit patterns that have previously held teens back. The teens and their parents learn not just what changes they need to make, but how to make and incorporate these changes into their new lives.
Overcoming emotional eating triggers and creating successful patterns and habits is the focus of our program. And these new behaviors are established while the teen has the full support of OTC Medical Group.
Because teens have to leave the weight-loss phase and live in a real-food world
By the time our teen clients reach their target weight, they will typically have been in the program for three months. And they continue the physical fitness program and Compass classes until they are weight-stable while eating real-world food.
This maintenance phase is usually an additional 6 months. And these six months are the most important in the program.
Because for a few months, the weight will stay off by itself, and the healthy habits remain in place, without effort. Then the momentum dies off. That’s why our program continues to provide teens with consistent, positive feedback and new health milestones – to keep the momentum going.
Making weight loss permanent
Also, the monitoring and classes provide the fast feedback and warning signs needed to counter any weight fluctuation early and to provide real time support while teens are living through real world stresses and choices.
The good news is this time is spent in a brilliant, new and thin body. Adolescents are living their new lives and doing things they really couldn’t do – or didn’t feel comfortable doing – before. But it’s a dramatic change. A change for the better, but still a big change. And big changes take time to become part of your life.
