Your body loves to use carbohydrates as its primary energy source. When you eat a bowl of pasta, your liver breaks down the carbohydrates into glucose and then releases the glucose into your blood stream. Then, your body either uses another molecule called insulin to turn that glucose into energy, or it efficiently converts your excess carbohydrates into fat for storage.
